The Evans Home uses the following criteria in evaluating referrals for placement at the Home:

  • Children admitted to the Evans Home for Children shall be of school age (5yrs to 17yrs), and eligible to attend public school or commute to a private school within the geographical area, whether in mainstream or special education programs.

  • Children admitted to the Evans Home shall be currently homeless, or for other reasons privately placed by a legal guardian or adult with legal custody.

  • Children admitted to the Evans Home shall be evaluated by Evans Home staff as not presenting a threat to the safety or well-being of the other residents in the Home.

  • Children admitted to the Evans Home must be deemed capable of thriving within the physical plant of the Evans Home.

  • Children with special needs will be evaluated on a case by case basis

Discharge Criteria

Residents will leave the Evans Home in one of several ways:

  • Some residents will remain at the Evans Home until they turn 18 years old, have graduated high school and are prepared to move out on their own or go to college.

  • Others residents may leave when they are reunified with their parents or when another relative has been identified as an appropriate caretaker.

  • The Evans Home may ask a resident to leave before these arrangements can be made. If a residents’ behavior presents a risk to him/herself or other residents of the Home OR if the residents’ school has determined they may no longer attend due to inappropriate behavior/conduct, the legal guardian will be contacted and other arrangements may need to be made. In these instances, the child usually moves to a highly structured facility, capable of providing education on their premises.
