Children's Update
Spring 2010
WE HAVE BIRDS!
In recent years, children at the Evans Home have had cats, dogs, ferrets, just about all sorts of rodents, lizards, turtles, toads, frogs, fish that congregate and fish that live alone. Last weekend, on the way home from a wonderful show at the Alamo Theater, our bunch was rounding the on-ramp to I-81 in the white van with House-parents Mike and Winona when Mike spotted a plastic container next to the highway. Something alive was in the container, so the van took the next exit, went back, and waited while Winona braved traffic and grabbed the item. Inside were four perfectly healthy budgies! Neighbor friend Jack took one home, no doubt to an excellent reception by his parents (we’ll miss Jack while he’s back on Evans Home restriction), and the other three are singing cheerfully in our living room in a new cage. What cheerful sounds added to our unique household!
Fall 2009
What a busy school year! With extra-curricular activities this year including freshman football, Tae Kwon Do, hockey and chorus ... plus work in the community, community service and studying, our kids are pretty much on the go all the time. Ad to that a planned fall visit to Kings' Dominion, an Orioles baseball game and the usual assortment of family visits and appointments and all we've got time for now is ... well ... the flu? We had our first cases this month, and are gearing up for lots of extra tlc all around! (sigh)
Our happier thoughts have already turned to the Holidays. Spider-webs and ghouls are all around our house, and we've even begun thinking about Christmas wishes! Ok, that actually started about New Year's.
